PREDATORS CLASSIFICATION: Hate Crimes

Hate crimes are committed by people who despise a certain group based solely on their race, ethnicity, or background. This type of prejudice is usually passed down from generation to generation. As economic situations and unemployment worsen, hate crimes increase. Most of these predators are uneducated men who travel in radical groups and take out their own frustrations on other people. The Ku Klux Klan and the Nazi Skinheads are two well-known groups who prey on minorities.

In some cases, minorities turn against other minorities. During the L.A riots, frustrated African Americans turned against Koreans who they felt were financially better off than they were. In Florida, African Americans turned against Haitians because they were taking their jobs. Many homosexuals have been attacked and in some cases beaten to death because of their sexual orientation.

Top 6 Things to Know About Hate Crime Education

  1. To think of Hate Crimes as HATE and not Hate Crimes. Just because our government does not recognize certain acts of Hate does not mean that we forget what Hate is truly all about. In my opinion, the cruelest place on earth are the hallways of a high school. It may not be a hate crime, but it is certainly hate.

  2. Each of us has a choice each day to either HATE or be LOVING and ACCEPTING and it begins with one single word. Think each day of how you respect or disrespect people on an average day.

  3. REPORT YOUR CRIMES. If you have been a victim of a hate crime, it is vitally important that your report it to the proper authorities.

  4. Get rid of TOLERANCE. It does not work. We at New Light Media do not teach Tolerance. It has too much negativity associated with it. The new millennium is about learning to agree to disagree and still walk away and respect each other. It's about RESPECT.

  5. Hate begins in Kindergarten. Start early. I see four year olds HATING each other.

  6. Hate is TAUGHT. A newborn is not born to HATE. We teach newborns how to HATE.

The world, the universe, or God whatever you want to call it has truly been knocking on our door in the last few years. HATE is the number one issue of the new millennium. If we don't get a handle on this issue, it will DESTROY our world. I 'm convinced of it. Less do we remember that the tragedies of Matthew Shepard, James Byrd Jr., and the students of Columbine High School happened in less than nine months, not a year or two. Shortly after that we had a tragedy called 9/11. How much worse does it need to get until we get it. Each of us has a role in this issue called hate. It is not the schools, churches, families, tv, video games fault, it is all of our responsibilities. It takes a village to raise a child and it take a village to rid the world of hate.

Each of us needs to do our own part. Modeling loving behavior creates a loving world. WIth that said, in order to know what hate looks like we need to see it and talk about it. This is why New Light Media and Journey to a Hate Free Millennium is so important to me and you never quite know what difference you will make in the world. I was doing a program at a high school in Denver and give my e-mail to each student. Shortly after my program, I received an e-mail from a student who said that he was grateful that I came to his school. He has no idea what the assembly was about and did not even know there was an assembly. He went on to say that he was moved and changed by the program. He was changed because he is the child at the high school that is always teased, bullied, hit and thrown into lockers. He continued to say that he has had a shotgun under his bed for about a week and was going to pull a "Columbine" that is until he saw my program. He mentioned that he had sought counseling through the school and even confessed to his parents about his feelings.
