Crime Commentaries with Dr. Eric Hickey
Dr. Eric Hickey

Becoming a victim of crime is not an inviting thought. No one wants to be a crime statistic and yet the reality is that nearly all of us will be criminally victimized at some point in our lives. Some of us will be victimized numerous times. So, we have to think about it because we all live with the reality of crime in our neighborhoods, our cities, and now in cyberspace. Yes, there are myths about crime and much of it is perpetuated in the media because sex and violence sell very well. The Crime Commentaries will give you facts and what you can do about those facts. Sometimes you may not like what you read about in Crime Commentaries because the information may seem harsh, unfair, or politically incorrect. Crime Commentaries is being produced to help you, not placate you. Surviving crime is not about fairness, it is about survival and restoration.

Crime Commentaries has a mission to educate you about criminals, what they do, how they do it and how they think. You will learn about their personalities and psychopathologies. But there is so much more that you will learn about. You will learn about victimization and what it means to be a crime victim and how crime victims navigate our criminal justice system. You will learn about how you can protect yourself from potential victimization and what to do when you are victimized. You will learn about our justice system and that justice for all has many, many interpretations. All the case examples used in Crime Commentaries are real. The predators are real as are their victims.

I have interviewed hundreds of offenders including petty thieves, scam artists, robbers, batterers, arsonists, rapists, child molesters, pedophiles, stalkers, murderers and serial killers, to name a few. I have walked the corridors of jails, prisons and institutions for the criminally insane and listened to their stories. I have also visited hospitals and cemeteries to witness the results of their devastating acts. Throughout my career I have interviewed hundreds of persons whose lives have been forever changed as a result of criminal victimization. I have witnessed first hand what it feels like to suffer at the hands of criminals and what is required to survive and become whole again. Please join me each week in Crime Commentaries as we explore crime and victimization. Your letters and comments will always be appreciated and responded to in a timely manner.
